MODULE 1: AUTISM BASICS AND THE STRENGTH BASED MODEL
This module begins by looking at some basic information about Autism Spectrum Disorder: What is Autism?, signs and symptoms, statistics and prevalence, areas of the brain impacted by autism, diagnostics, the strength-based model, areas of challenge, the sensory spectrum and introduction to 12 evidence-based strategies that work.
MODULE 2: 12 STRATEGIES THAT WORK AND HOW TO USE THEM
This module will breaks down each of the 12 strategies individually so you know exactly how to use it and why it’s used. These are all strategies commonly used by professionals and this information will allow you to build positive behavior management techniques in your home that will benefit your child’s cognitive and emotional development.
MODULE 3: THE ESCALATION CYCLE & PREVENTING MELTDOWNS
This module provides an in-depth explanation of the escalation cycle, meltdowns, and how to prevent them, as well as emotional regulation strategies. This module covers: The escalation cycle, proactive strategies for each stage of the cycle, useful NVCI skills, post-meltdown strategies, replacement behavior and environmental modifications, use of seclusion and restraint
MODULE 4: SENSORY INTEGRATION AND THE 8 SENSORY SYSTEMS
In this module, you will learn about how each of the sensory systems works and will have a better understanding of how your own child is processing sensory information as well as any issues with sensory integration. This module explains how each of the 8 sensory systems works, and what kind of problems can exist with each of these systems.
MODULE 5: UNDERSTANDING & ASSESSING BEHAVIOR LIKE A PRO
Behavior specialists, such as those who do applied behavior analysis (ABA), work with schools or social workers, have extensive training in psychology, behavior analysis, & childhood development. Often they have spent nearly a decade studying the meaning behind behaviors, how to assess it, how to understand it and change it. This module explores some of the top strategies used by behavior specialists. You will better understand your child’s behavior – and learn the analytical and interventionist skills that come straight from the pros.
MODULE 6: COMMUNICATION SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TECHNIQUES
One of the biggest challenges for families is expanding and improving their child’s communication skills. Before having a child with communication challenges, most people are unaware of how complex even a simple conversation can be because most of us develop those skills naturally when we are toddlers. This module covers listening skills, echolalia, alternative communication, oral comprehension, oral expression, and social skill development.
